From Casting to Bracing: Initial Logistic Complexities Faced by The Mothers in Providing Care to Their Child with Clubfoot During Ponseti Intervention in Bangladesh
Background: Ponseti intervention is an incredibly effective treatment for clubfoot management yet it is unknown how much discomfort a mother may face during handling their children while continuing this treatment. The purpose of this study is to explore the difficulties faced by the mothers to take care of their child with clubfoot during the casting and bracing stage of the Ponseti method.
Method: A qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews of 9 mothers of children with clubfoot.
Analysis of this study revealed three general themes, mothers maintain their children’s activities of daily living with the help of different strategies which are hardly suitable for them; social, cultural, and psychological factors act as an influencing factor to continue Ponsei intervention; and taking care of children with clubfoot brings changes in mothers’ self-care and productive life.
Conclusion: Ponseti service providers may get aware of mothers’ difficulties through the study result and can provide more fruitful instruction to ensure client centered treatment program.
