Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Aims and scope

Bangladesh journal of Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation is the official publication of the Bangladesh Occupational Therapy Association. Aim is to promote evidence based practice in occupational therapy and disability rehabilitation in Bangladesh and globally. Bangladesh Journal of Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation publishes research article, review, case studies, letter to the editor and professional news.

Submissions covering a wide range of topics on occupational therapy, disability and rehabilitation from researches and practitioners across all disciplines working in the field are encouraged. The journal is now publishes two times a year in the months of April, and October. However, articles are accepted round the year.

Submission guidelines

Papers are accepted for publication with an understanding that they are solely submitted for this journal. The statements, comments, or opinions expressed in the papers are exclusively of author (s), not of editor(s) or publisher. All papers submitted for publication are subject to peer review and editorial review.

Before you submit

  • Make sure you are submitting to the most suitable journal-Read our aims and scope.
  • Make sure you manuscript is accurate and readable: For editor and reviewers to accurately assess the work presented in your manuscript you need to ensure the English language is of sufficient quality to be understood. If you need help with writing in English you should consider asking a colleague who is a native English speaker to review your manuscript for clarity. If necessary you may also consider using a professional editing service.
  • Understand the copyright agreement: Copyright on any open access article in Bangladesh Journal of Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation is retained by the author(s). Author(s) grants Bangladesh Occupational Therapy Association a license to publish the article and identify itself as the original publisher. Authors also grant any third party the right to use the article freely as long as its integrity is maintained and its original authors, citation details and publisher are identified. The Creative Commons Attribution License 4.0 formalizes these and other terms and conditions of publishing article.

General formatting guideline

Use times roman 12 size fonts; avoid widow orphan lines, double space the line, no paragraph spacing, keep page margins at least 1.5’’ on the left 1.0’’ on the three other sides of the manuscript, each on a separate sheet. In the body, indicate where you want your table/figure to be inserted(e.g. insert Table 1 here). Table should be in the same format as your article (i.e. word) and not another format embedded into the document. They must be cited in the main text in numerical order. Images must be cited within the main text in numerical order and submitted separately.

Preparing your manuscript

The manuscripts are to be prepared as described in following instructions.

Covering letter

Use the covering letter to explain why your paper should be published in the Bangladesh Journal of Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation.

Title page

The title page must contain the following information:

  1. Title of the article.
  2. Full name, postal address,e-mail, telephone and fax numbers of corresponding author.
  3. Full names, departments, institutions, city and country of all co-authors.
  4. Word count-excluding title page, abstract, references, figures and tables.

Abstract

The abstract should not exceed 350 words. Please minimize the use of abbreviations and do not cite references in the abstract. The abstract must include the following separate sections:

  • Background: the context and purpose of the study
  • Methods: how the study was performed and statistical tests used
  • Result: the main findings
  • Conclusions:brief summary and potential implication.

Key words: Three to six keywords should be included.  

Introduction

The introduction should explain the rationale behind the current study, placing the research topic and study within the context of the current research landscape. Authors should summarize the cite previous research relevant to the current study and highlight the gap in knowledge being filled by the present research and mention the aim and objectives. The introduction to a paper should not require more than 600 words.

Methods

The methods section should include:

  • The design and setting of the study
  • The characteristics of participants or description of materials
  • A clear description of all processes, interventions and comparisons.
  • The type of statistical analysis used
  • This section should not contain more than 500 words.

Result

The ‘Result’ section should present the collected data and analysis. Result for all measures should be reported in concise, straightforward manner, using table or figures when appropriate. Duplication o information that is presented in table or figure should be minimal in the text and all result should be reported in the text rather than figure caption. The ‘Result’ section should not contain more than 600 words. In case of qualitative study, result and discussion section may be presented together.

Discussion

The purpose of the discussion section is to interpret and describe the significance of your findings in light of what was already known about the research problem being investigated and to explain any new understanding or fresh insights about the problem after you have taken the findings into consideration. The discussion should explain how your study has moved the readers understanding of the research problem forward from where you left them at the end of the introduction and highlight limitations of the study. Avoid un-qualified statements and conclusions which are not supported by the data. This section should not contain more than 500 words.

Conclusion

A conclusion is not merely a summary of the main topics covered or a re statement of your research problem but a synthesis of key point and, if applicable, where you recommend new for future research.

List of abbreviations: If abbreviations are used in the text they should be defined in the text at first use, and  a list of abbreviations should be provided.

Declarations

All manuscripts must contain the following sections under the heading ‘Declarations’

Ethics approval and consent to participate: Manuscript reporting studies involving human participants or human data must include a statement on ethics approval and consent.

  • Consent for publication: manuscript contains any individual persons data in any form(including individual details, image or videos) must include a statement on consent for publication. Consent must be obtained from the person, or in the case of children, their parent and legal guardian. All presentation of case reports must have consent for publication. If manuscript does not contain data from any individual person, please state ‘’Not applicable’’ in this section.
  • Any manuscript that includes table, illustration or photograph that have been published earlier should accompany a letter of permission for re-publication from the author(s) of the publication and editor/publisher of the journal where it was published earlier.
  • Competing interests: All financial and non-financial competing interests must be declared in this section. If you do not have any competing interests, please state ‘’The authors declare that they have no competing interests’’
  • Authors contributions: The individual contributions of authors to the manuscript should be specified in this section. Please use initials to refer to each author’s contribution in this section, for example: ‘’ IM analyzed and interpreted data. All authors read and approved the final manuscript.’’
  • Acknowledgements: All source of funding for the research reported reported should be declared. Authors should acknowledge anyone who contributed towards the article but does not meet the criteria for authorship including anyone who provided professional writing services or materials. Authors should obtain permission to acknowledge from all those mentioned in the acknowledgements section.

References: References should be written in Vancouver Citation style, numbered with Arabic numerals in theorder they appear in the text.

Case reports

Case reports will discuss an interesting case (one to three clients or patients or a single family) that raises a problem or challenge and has implications for occupational therapy. They may also report novel approaches or adverse events, or illuminate the wider side of clinical practice.

Reprints for the author(s)

Copies of each published article will be provided to the corresponding author free of cost

Communication information for all correspondence is always printed in the title page of the journal. Any additional information or any other inquiry relating to submission of the article the editor or the journal office may be contacted.
